Long mode will be disabled in this virtual environment. I have this message each time starting the XP machine (without tools):īinary translation is incompatible with long mode on this platform. I checked out that the VGA driver won't installed, even after installing the driver into the VM. Yes I have the same problem each time after installing VMWare tools, the XP 32 bit guest just went blank and showing something like lines screensaver. I tried running the import tool from VMWare Workstation 7, thinking that maybe it uses a newer version of VMWare converter than the stand-alone VMWare converter, but I couldn't get that to work, even after disabling all firewalls and other security software on the target machine.Ī couple other tricks I can think of are to uninstall the NVIDIA drivers from the old computer before running the converter or to try converting to a Microsoft VM, then convert the Microsoft VM to a VMWare VM. I have the old computer backed up with Acronis 2009, but VMWare doesn't support anything more recent than the old Acronis v9, so that method didn't work. I'm not sure where else to look for VMWare log files other than Windows\Temp\ The vminst.log file is filled with "E1:AdjustSecurity: security query failed" errors, but those don't seem correlated to starting up the insance. Inside of VMWare Workstation I went to the Message Log, but it is blank. I cleared out the temp folder on the new computer to capture any error logs that might result from starting up, but there is almost nothing in the logs other than entries that USB is starting up. I tried running the converter again to make sure the Install tools box was checked, then I tried opening the image inside of the latest VMWare Player on another computer, but the result was the same: a black screen after the Windows logo faded out. The new server doesn't have a floppy drive. I set everything but USB to start disconnected, including the CD drive, but I didn't get any further. I lowered the CPU count to 1 CPU with 1 core. After the VM restarts, Windows should automatically update the drivers. Thanks for the suggestions. Under Display Adapters, uninstall the VMware display driver. From the Windows Control Panel, open the Device Manager.Sign in to the VM using the stored credentials for the VM (see Viewing saved VM credentials).Note that mouse movement in Safe Mode may be erratic. Use the arrow keys to select Safe Mode, and then press Enter to restart the VM in safe mode. At the VMware startup screen, repeatedly press F8 on the virtual keyboard until the Advanced Boot Options screen displays. In the browser client toolbar, click to turn on the virtual keyboard, and then click to start the VM.Click the VM thumbnail to open the Secure Remote Access (SRA) browser client.Don’t start the VM (if it’s already started, shut down the VM).If you see a blank screen for a non-Windows VM, make sure you’re using a supported operating system. For help fixing a Windows 10 or Windows Server 2016 VM, see Why is the screen black after my Windows 10 VM boots?.
